Citizens Health is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant to work full-time in our Emergency Department.  We prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in an ER setting.

Location: 100 E College Ave, Colby, Kansas

 

Position Information: The Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant will work in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of patients admitted to the emergency room, paying urgent attention to their primary care needs, health conditions and physical injuries or trauma. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians.

Responsible to the Clinic Manager and Sponsoring Physician.

 

Days: Sunday 7a – 7a (24hr shift) | Monday 7p – 7p (24hr shift) | 1 to 5 weekend rotation

 

Hours: 48 hours per week with an additional 36 hours per weekend shift every 5th weekend

 

Pay Range: Salary range between $115,000 and $135,000 depending on experience and final schedule

 

What you’ll do:

  • Manage medical and surgical emergencies. Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
  • Perform a complete physical exam and records findings.  Establish presumptive diagnosis. Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs or patients.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention. 
  • Administer medications and injections according to physician direction.  Suture minor lacerations. Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.  Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instruct patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.  Provide patient education.
  • Maintain and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.  Post tests and examination results.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.

 

What you bring to the table: (Minimum Requirements)

  • Current State Registered Nurse license or Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants.
  • Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care to give and evaluation patient care.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide on-going patient care.
  • Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding correspondence.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Typical Working ConditionsWork is performed in an emergency department setting, primarily in patient exam rooms, where the employee will have direct contact with sick and injured patients.  There may be times that the patient has a contagious disease.  Work is performed in a safe environment, but an environment where direct contact with blood and other bodily fluids may be present.

 

Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.  Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.  Requires exposures to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.  Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
